Timisoara Municipality organizes on March 21, 2014 the Seminar entitled "GEOTHERMAL - SOLUTIONS and Local Projects within the Frame of Europe 2020 Objectives", an event which aims at bringing to the attention of representatives of local authorities and of other local actors solutions offered by shallow geothermal systems as an efficient and renewable source for heat supply.

Both theoretical and technical aspects and practicalities will be presented during the event, such as:

- the procedures involved in the development of a project;

- the potential of shallow geothermal systems in reaching the EU 2020 objectives;

- applications and benefits of geothermal energy sources in the context of European Directives concerning energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy sources;

- their translation into Romanian legislation .

The event is organized in collaboration with the Romanian Association"GEOEXCHANGE", whose experts will deliver training workshops and courses for professionals in local authorities and for actors involved in other public sectors.

It is the result of collaboration between two projects funded by the European Union through the Programme Intelligent Energy Europe - CONURBANT "An inclusive peer-to-peer approach to Involve EU wide CONURBations and urban areas in Participating to the Covenant of Mayors" -  IEE/10/380/SI2 code 58 9427  and REGEOCITIES - "Regulations of Geothermal HP systems at local and regional level in Europe" - code IEE/11/041/SI2.616367 (www.regeocities.eu).

These projects have joined forces to instruct and improve professional competence of specialists in public administration concerning the potential of geothermal energy and the inclusion of solutions , and projects focused on geothermal energy in sustainable energy action plans that are developed within the CONURBANT project where the local governments (both signatories and non - signatories to the mayors’ Convention) may be involved.

The seminar will take place on March 21, 2014, from 9:00 a.m. at Timisoara City Hall, at no. 1, C.D.Loga Boulevard, in the Local Council Hall.
